Karate, which translates as ‘empty hand way’, focuses on disciplining the mind, body, and spirit. Students will be introduced to some basic tools found in Goju Ryu Karate. Goju Ryu, which means Hard Soft Style, was developed by Sensei Chojun Miyagi of Okinawa in 1913, although the art would not be named Goju until 1930.
Students will learn striking principles, self defense based on classical Japanese ju jitsu and to identify the applications found in the core katas (forms) of Goju Ryu. Intention is placed on promoting love, peace, harmony and compassion. Students will notice improvement to their confidence, awareness, strength, and stamina. Gambate!
Students will learn:
- 2 -3 self-defences

Sensei Shane asks that participants with long hair wear their hair tied back and that all jewellery such as watches, bracelets, rings, earrings, necklaces, etc, be removed or covered with a band-aid in order to prevent injury. If you arrive late, please wait for Sensei Shane to invite you into the class.
Uniforms are required and can be purchased at the studio.
