new student guidelines

Please look through the guidelines to ensure that your experience at  MOVEMENTCENTRE is a pleasant one.


general

  • arrive 10 - 15 minutes early to allow time to sign-in and prepare for your class.
  • if the studio door is locked, please be quiet as another class may still be in session.
  • most classes are practiced in bare feet. please remove your street shoes upon entering the studio.
  • please turn off all electronic/mobile devices before entering the studio.
  • inform the teacher of any injury, medical condition or limitations before the class starts.
  • inform the teacher if you are pregnant.
  • please wear flexible, non-binding clothing that allows your instructor to see your alignment.
  • please refrain from wearing perfume or strong scents as other people may have allergies or sensitivities.
  • we have a shower for general use but we do not provide towels.
  • we cannot be responsible for your valuables. please bring them to the practice room and place them out of the way. larger items should be left in the change rooms.
  • movement centre is a non-competitive space. listen to your body and take breaks as you need them, distinguishing pain from sensation. you should never feel pain while you practice.


yoga

  • yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach. try to avoid eating at least 2 hours prior to practice.
  • for hygienic reasons, we recommend you bring your own mat. we have practice mats available that we ask you to please disinfect with our mat spray and hang to dry after use. we also have mats available for purchase.
  • if you must leave class early, please rest in savasana (final relaxation) for a few minutes and try to exit the studio before the rest of class moves into savasana.


martial arts

  • for hygienic reasons, we recommend you bring your own hand wraps and gloves (if applicable). we have practice hand wraps and gloves available that we ask you to please disinfect with our mat spray and hang to dry after use. we also have hand wraps and gloves available for purchase.
  • with the exception of boxing, all of the martial arts can be practiced in bare feet. kung fu/ tai chi slippers can also be worn.
  • some disciplines will require a uniform. please see class descriptions for more information.
